Donner and splitzen

A few nights ago we had the most fantastic thunder storm. It started at about 04:00 hrs and finished an hour and a half later. I did grab my camera and set up my tripod with an intention of capturing some lightning. The resulting pictures of black cats in a coal mine were disappointing.

At about 04:30 hrs this tree was struck by lightning. I estimate it was 60 feet high. The shockwave knocked about a dozen apples off our tree, 500 yards away.
