An autumnal stroll

Today I was aggrieved about some trifling administrative shenanigans and had to get out of the house for a little walk.

I took my camera and found a few autumnal scenes.

Click on the picture and then on the slideshow button and it'll take you along my walk; maybe you'll recognise things? Posted by Picasa

I can see my house.

Top photos.

I was going to write to to ask for more - but didn't have to. Weather looks great - better than here anyway as it has started to rain again for some obscure and unseasonal reason. (But only on Thursdays - our day off.)

The one with the chimney - where's that?

I notice you didn't go down to Ratty's cottage right at the bottom of Hartslock Lane beside the river. If you go there you can understand what inspired Kenneth Graham. Lots of places claim to be Toad Hall on the Thames but Coombe Park was most likely the major inspiration - right next door to Ratty.

Up in the woods at the top of Whitchurch Hill, between the main road and the end of the lane is an old charcoaler's hut - which is almost certainly where mole dug himself out of the ground in that memorable spring.

Badger was a curmudgeonly brute, probably from Mapledurham.
