Dragonflies

I came across these many miles apart, one in Cuba and one in Whichchurch, do you think that they are both Common Darters?

Jooce,

We also have maroon ones at the ashram here - which is kind of odd as you have to wear a maroon robe to get in.

You're not allowed to take photographs there but I shall try nontheless.

Hey Jooce,

Which one's which?

I guess the one on the rock is from Cuba.

I have checked the one's at the ashram - they have a shaded area on the leading edge of both front and back wings as in the one on the rock.

I think I can just about make out similar spots on the one with the bird mauled wings.

Separated but such large distances I would be inclined to believe that they were not the same species despite their similarity. This may result from identical solutions to a fitness problem being discovered in each area by the process of natural selection.

Does anyone know any better?
