Sure you're not confused here? Acorns (seeds of the oak) can be sessile or pendunculate - galls are a growth that results from the activities of the gall wasp and are where its larvae mature. Which is why the old brown ones have a small, very circular hole in them where the adult wasp has exited. I think this starts on the leaves and not the acorns.
